The Sumitomo SH240 is a 24–25 ton class crawler excavator designed for general earthmoving, quarry work, road construction and civil projects. Built in Japan, it combines a powerful Isuzu turbo-diesel engine with a smooth, responsive hydraulic system, giving strong breakout force and fast cycle times for digging, trenching and loading work.
In the SH240-5 generation, the machine is powered by the Isuzu AH-4HK1X 4-cylinder, common-rail diesel engine delivering around 132 kW (177 hp) at 2,000 rpm, providing high productivity with good fuel efficiency.
With an operating weight of about 24.3–24.4 t and a standard bucket capacity of around 1.1 m³, the SH240 offers a maximum digging depth of roughly 6.4 m and a horizontal reach of about 9.8 m, with bucket breakout (tear-out) force in the 160 kN range. These figures put it firmly in the heavy-duty 24-ton class, suitable for bulk excavation, truck loading and demanding site work.
The spacious, air-conditioned cab with ergonomic joysticks and clear monitoring display provides good visibility and operator comfort, while the robust undercarriage and easy-access service points help reduce downtime and running costs over long-term rental or fleet use.
